Destination Information

Long before the Inca empire dominated the Andes, a culture was born in the basin of Lake Titicaca that for centuries was one of the most important in South America. It is known as Tiahuanaco after the name of its capital, Tiwanaku, located on the southern shore of Lake Titicaca. Born as a small agricultural community, it became an empire that, strangely, did not expand through weapons.
